The
graph shows the number of Incidence of X disease in Someland between the years
1960 and 1995. It can be clearly seen that the amount of Incidence of X disease

incidence of X disease was about 100 from 1960 to 1965 and doubled in 1970.
There was a sharp increase between 1970 and 1975, with 500 people in incidence
of X disease. In 1980, the number of incidence was stable 500 likely the year
1980. After this, the total drop quickly
to around 350 in 1985. Between 1985 and 1990, numbers fall rapidly near zero.
From 1990 to 1995, amount of people in incidence of X disease remained constant
zero.
In
conclusion we can see that the fluctuation number of incidence of X disease in
Someland between the years 1960 and 1995. The total of incidence increased
until 1975 and remained in 1980, but decrease quickly for the rest of the
period.

Mở đầu bài report bằng câu The graph shows là đúng,
nhưng ở đây, the number of incidence là sai, vì incidence đã mang nghĩa là “tỉ
lệ mắc phải rồi”. Cho nên nếu muốn dùng the number of, thì viết the number of
cases of X disease sẽ đúng hơn.
Tương tự, the amount of incidence of the disease
nên chuyển thành the number of people who suffered from this disease (chuyển X
disease thành this disease để đỡ lặp từ, và do số trường hợp mắc bệnh cũng
chính là số người mắc bệnh, nên chuyển thành the number of people who suffered
from …). Có thể thấy rõ rằng số trường hợp
mắc bệnh tăng, rồi ổn định, rồi giảm từ từ, nên nếu chỉ nói là đang giảm như ở đây thì chưa đúng lắm.
Cách dùng thì sai, thời gian là 1960 – 1995, nên phải dùng quá khứ.
Đoạn mở đầu tóm lại sửa như sau: The graph shows the number of
cases of X disease in Someland between the years 1960 and 1995. It can be
clearly seen that the number of people who suffered from this disease
experienced some significant changes over the period.
PHẦN 2: The incidence of X disease was about
100 from 1960 to 1965 and doubled in 1970. There was a sharp increase between
1970 and 1975, with 500 people in incidence of X disease. In 1980, the number
of incidence was stable 500 likely the year 1980. After this, the total drop quickly to around

Phần with 500 people in incidence of X disease
chưa ổn, phải chuyển thành 500 people catching the disease (rút
gọn của 500 people who caught the
disease). Cách viết “likely the year 1980”, chưa hiểu ý người viết? à nên viết lại nguyên phần trên là, There
was a sharp increase in the number of X disease sufferer, from 200 (in 1970) to
500 cases (in 1975). After that this figure remained stable for 5 years
(thời gian 5 năm từ 1975 tới 1980) before suddenly dropping to
approximately 350 cases in 1985. (dùng approximately, about, roughly khi chưa chắc lắm về số liệu)
Do phần số liệu sau năm 1985 có thay đổi lớn,
nên có thể dùng trạng từ significantly
để mở đầu câu, giúp nhấn mạnh sự đặc điểm này. Dùng numbers là sai, phải bỏ đi “-s”. Thêm nữa, dùng sai thì (điều tối kỵ)
fall à fell.
Dùng amount of people là sai, vì amount chỉ dùng với danh từ không đếm
được, thay vào đó, dùng number. Câu
trên sửa lại là Significantly, the
number of X disease cases fell rapidly to zero. From 1990 onwards, the
incidence of X disease remained constant AT zero. (remain constant AT … )
Tuy nhiên do phần này là điểm nhấn quan trọng của
bài viết, có thể cải thiện như sau: Cấu trúc from … onwards: từ năm … trở đi.
Do số người mắc bệnh ngày càng giảm và tới zero, nên có thể nói là căn bệnh đã
“disappear”
hoặc là bị nhổ rễ tận gốc “eradicate”.
--> Significantly, the incidence of X
disease fell rapidly from 1985 onwards, reaching zero in 1990. Since this point
the disease was completely eradicated from Someland.
PHẦN 3: In conclusion we can see that the
fluctuation number of incidence of X disease in Someland between the years 1960
and 1995. The total of incidence increased until 1975 and remained in 1980, but
decrease quickly for the rest of the period.
Chú ý
sau lưng THAT bao giờ cũng là 1 mệnh đề (that + subject + verb).
Ở đây không thấy được mệnh đề, mà chỉ có một cụm danh từ là the fluctuation
number of … là sai, bỏ THAT đi, và sửa lại: we
can see some fluctuations in the incidence of X disease over the period
(Chúng tôi không chủ trương lặp lại quá nhiều, vì sẽ có xu hướng giống như 1 câu mở đầu).
The total number of cases of X
disease increased until 1975, remained constant in 1980 before suddenly
decreasing for the rest of the period.
Remain phải đi chung với constant: remain
constant. Theo kinh nghiệm, để viết 2, 3 sự thay đổi tăng giảm trong cùng một
câu, có thể dùng cấu trúc sau: S + V1(ed), V2(ed) before V3-ing (cấu trúc tự chế) Ở đây được áp
dụng trong câu là … increased until
1975, remained constant in 1980 before suddenly decreasing …(V1
= increase, V2 = remain, V3 = decrease)
Do lần đầu sửa bài nên còn hơi rối rắm, không giống
như vừa dạy vừa sửa trên lớp nên xin các bạn thông cảm.

1960, the number of cases stood at approximately 100. That number rose steadily
to 200 by 1969 and then more sharply to 500 in 1977. At this point the number
of cases remained stable until 1984 before plummeting to zero by 1988. From
1988 to 1995 Someland was free of the disease.
In
conclusion, the graph shows that the disease was increasingly prevalent until
the 1980s when it was eradicated from Someland.
